Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has fulfilled his promise of giving old pension to 61 lakh poor elderly of the state in the first quarter of the financial year itself. Now the Yogi government has set a target of delivering pension amount to 67.50 lakh eligible elders in the current financial year. Earlier, in the first quarter of the last financial year, the Yogi government has provided financial assistance to the account of 56 lakh poor elderly people at the rate of Rs 1000 per month according to its goal.
The Yogi government had set a target of pensioners 61 lakh in the old age pension scheme in the year 2025-26 run by the Social Welfare Department, which has already been achieved in the financial year and set a new target. With this important decision, the Yogi government has strengthened its commitment to the elders of the state. Also, the single nodal account (SNA) system has made the pension process digital and transparent, where pension directly goes to base-linked accounts, without any mediator. This ensures good use of government money and beneficiaries get benefits without delay. The use of the SNA system not only accelerates distribution, but also makes audit and tracking easier. This causes corruption to curb and every money is kept.
Yogi government is taking care of poor elders
Old Age Pension Scheme is a major part of the public welfare policies of the Yogi government, which focuses on making the elderly financially self -reliant. Under this scheme, a pension of Rs 1,000 per month is provided to economically weaker elderly people above 60 years of age, which reduces financial problems in the last years of their lives. The Yogi government has given priority to this scheme from the beginning. When the plan started in 2017, the number of beneficiaries was 37.47 lakhs, which has reached a target of 67.50 lakhs today. This increase is the result of the government’s activism, where eligible elders were identified at the development block and gram panchayat level. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, if more characters are found more than the target, then they are also included in the scheme.
Scheme became a boon for poor elderly
Under this scheme, there has been a steady increase in the number of beneficiaries in the last few years. In the year 2018-19, 40,71,580 old people got the benefit of this scheme, in which an amount of ₹ 187913.10 lakh was spent. In 2019-20, this number increased to 47,99,480 and spent ₹ 269774.45 lakh. In 2020-21, 51,24,155 beneficiaries received a pension of ₹ 36949.13 lakh. In 2021-22, 51,92,779 old people were given a pension of ₹ 427790.56 lakh. In 2022-23, this number reached 54,97,237, and a total of ₹ 608374.50 lakh was spent on it. In 2023-24, 55,68,590 old people have got the benefit of this scheme and a total amount of ₹ 646434.06 lakh has been spent on it. At the same time, in the year 2024-25, 55,99,997 lakh beneficiaries got the benefit of pension.
