Thailand-Kambodia border dispute stops, ceasefire agreed after four days of war

Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to the ‘immediate and unconditional’ ceasefire after the deadly border clashes lasted for several days. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Monday that Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to immediately and unconditional ceasefire to end the border struggle for several days. The development has come to light after Malaysia offered arbitration in Thailand-Kambodia conflict.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand acting Prime Minister Fumham Vachayachai attended the arbitration talks at Ibrahim’s residence in Putrajaya, Malaysia. He was accompanied by Chinese and US ambassadors in Malaysia.

Trump said in a post on his Truth social network, “I just talked to the Prime Minister of Cambodia regarding stopping the war with Thailand. I have just talked to the acting Prime Minister of Thailand and it has a very good conversation. Like Cambodia, Thailand also wants a ceasefire and peace.”
What did Cambodia’s PM say?
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that his country agrees to immediately and unconditionally ceasefire. He said that Trump told him that Thailand has also agreed to stop the attack after Trump’s conversation with acting Thai Prime Minister Fummatha Vachayachai.
Thailand’s Foreign Ministry also agreed
Thailand expressed cautious support. According to the Thai Foreign Ministry, Fummatham thanked Trump and said that Thailand theoretically agrees on the ceasefire, but emphasized the need for honestly intentions from Cambodia. Fummham called for a quick bilateral talks to discuss concrete steps towards a peaceful solution.
Trump posted Truth on social that he warned the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia that they would cancel the trade agreement if the struggle continues in the two countries.
Significantly, at least 34 people have been killed and more than 1,68,000 people have been displaced in this conflict that has been going on for four days.
Cambodia ready for unconditional ceasefire
On the other hand, Cambodian Prime Minister Manet said on Sunday that his country had agreed to immediately and unconditional ceasefire.
He said that Trump told him that Thailand has also agreed to stop the attack after Trump’s talks with acting Thai Prime Minister Fumm. Maant said in a statement, it is positive news for soldiers and people of both countries.
UN chief also asked to stop war
Prior to Trump, United Nations chief Antonio Guterres also urged Cambodia and Thailand to arrive on an agreement for the ceasefire.
UN Chief of the United Nations Chief Farhan Haq said that Guterres has urged both sides to resolve any issue through negotiations to immediately agree on the ceasefire and find a permanent solution to the dispute. Guterres said that from July 24, he is extremely concerned about the armed conflicts on the border between Cambodia and Thailand.
Which issue dispute?
Information about the clash started between the two countries on July 24. On Thursday, July 24, Thailand flew a F-16 fighter aircraft to bomb several locations in Cambodia. About 11 civilians were killed in the shelling from both sides. Meanwhile, the tension on the border turned into a rare armed conflict between the southeast Asian countries. The two countries had further extended this with heavy artillery bombing and Thai air strikes on their 817 km long ground border.
Both sides accused each other of starting the clash, killing at least 35 people and more than 2,60,000 people from both sides were displaced. Both countries called their ambassadors withdrawn and Thailand closed all boundaries with Cambodia.
