Ahmedabad
In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, there has been a tremendous controversy over posters put in the name of giving women advice related to safety. It was written in these posters, ‘Going to the late-night party can invite rape or gangrape.’ Police and social organizations are being severely criticized for this kind of language. However, after the matter came to light, the police immediately removed these posters. At the same time, the police has admitted that the language used in the poster cannot be accepted.
On another poster installed by the police on women safety, it was written, ‘Do not go with friends in dark and deserted areas, you may have rape or gang rape.’ There was a huge protest on social media over such messages. Police officials clarified that these posters were proposed for traffic awareness by an organization called ‘Vigilance’. DCP (Traffic West) Neeta Desai and ACP (Traffic Admin) Shailesh Modi said that the police were not aware of the entire content of the poster and as soon as the controversy increased, they were immediately removed.
Police shown pension
At the same time, the police has tried to shut down its pension from this dispute. ACP (Traffic) NN Chaudhary said, “We had never allowed such a language.” Local residents and social workers are hurt by this episode. A woman Bhumi Patel, a resident of Ghatodia, said, “Such messages blame women, while the real responsibility is of the system.” Bodakdev’s fitness trainer termed it as ‘Moral Policing’ and said that these posters make fun of women safety.
Women angry
Please tell that campaigns are run from time to time regarding the safety of women. The police administration also takes cooperation of non -governmental institutions in this. The NGO’s help was also taken in the poster campaign of Ahmedabad, but the way the words for women safety were selected, it created a ruckus. The women have specifically expressed their displeasure. A woman resident of Nehru Nagar said, “These posters reveal the mentality that blames the victim and saves the institutions responsible for the security lapse. ‘ This controversy has once again put the way of ‘advice’ being given in the name of women safety and the thinking behind them in the dock.
