The closeness of Washington and Islamabad is continuously increasing amidst the Indo-US tariff controversy and business differences. On Pakistan’s independence day (14 August), US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, congratulating Pakistan, described Pakistan as “the major partner of Washington” in anti -terrorism campaigns and business and assured to continue this cooperation in future as well.

Rubio said that the US gives importance to partnership in many important areas with Pakistan. Appreciating Pakistan’s activism in anti -terrorism policies and trade efforts, he spoke of searching for new economic opportunities in areas such as “important minerals” and “hydrocarbons” and strengthening business relations. On August 14, 1947, Pakistan was separated from India and formed Pakistan. India celebrates this day from 2021 as “Partition Vibhisika Memorial Day”, so that those who lost their lives during partition can be remembered.

According to analysts, the foundation of America-Pakistan proximity was laid when Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif accepted the arbitration proposal of the then US President Donald Trump after “Operation Sindoor”, while India clearly rejected it. Since then, the deadlock on the trade deal between India and US was deepened, while Pakistan stood firmly in the US side.

Recently, the US declared the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Majeed Brigade active in Balochistan as a global terrorist organization. Experts believe that this step is in favor of Pakistan, as Balochistan is a region rich in energy and mineral resources and the US is planning to invest here. Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir’s second visit to America in three months is also an indication that Washington has more inclination towards Pakistan at this time.
