Washington
The world’s eyes were on the much awaited meeting of Alaska. The result is now in front of everyone. Russian President Vladimir Putin clarified that the attack on Ukraine would continue and US President Donald Trump failed to make a concrete agreement. The meeting started with a warm welcome. Putin and Trump were seen sitting in the same bulletproof limousine, smiling and shaking hands. But this harmony did not affect the results of the meeting.
In a joint press conference, Putin said that Russia has to end the root causes of war. That is, the presence on the border of NATO. This statement made it clear that the end of the war is not possible at the moment. Putin also said that the next meeting should be held in Moscow, in which the role of Ukraine President Volodimir Zelanski would be suspicious. Trump is constantly interested in dialogue and interaction with the media. He spoke just three and a half minutes and did not take a single question. He only said that he would make some phone calls to tell NATO and Jailnsky about the meeting. According to experts, it is considered a very weak result.
Top Economic Advisor from Russia was also present in the meeting. The presence of several representatives, including Harvard-educated Kiril Dimitrev, shows that Russia also saw this summit dialogue as a business opportunity. European leaders and Ukraine definitely got relief that there was no discussion on redefining Ukraine’s boundaries in the meeting. However, Putin’s root cause indicates the eradication of the causes that the war may be stretched and prolonged.
Whose account win?
The victory for Trump would have been done if he could get a ceasefire immediately. The victory for Putin was to agree on further conversation in vague words and continue the war. The result is clear. Putin won a full victory with this historic meeting in Alaska. In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to America in a crisis of money. But in 2025, Putin returned victorious from Alaska in a geopolitical match.
