NDA Vice Presidential candidate Radhakrishnan meets PM Modi

Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. The meeting took place a day after the ruling NDA coalition made him a Vice Presidential candidate. He arrived here to participate in various NDA meetings and met several leaders. Soon after the meeting, Modi said in a post on ‘X’, “C. Met P. Radhakrishnan ji. He greeted him on behalf of the NDA on being made the candidate for the post of Vice President. Long experiences of public service and their expertise in various fields will enrich our country. He continues to serve the country with dedication and determination as before. ”Radhakrishnan can file his nomination on August 20. He is expected to be honored at the NDA parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday.

Earlier, on reaching New Delhi on Monday, Maharashtra Governor and NDA Vice Presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan’s Union Minister Kiren Riziju, Ram Mohan Naidu. Apart from Prahlad Joshi, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and others welcomed. Chandrapuram Ponusamy Radhakrishnan is currently working as the 24th Governor of Maharashtra since 31 July 2024. Earlier, he served as the Governor of Jharkhand from February 2023 to July 2024. He also took over additional charge as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry between March and July 2024.

Senior BJP leader Radhakrishnan was elected to the Lok Sabha twice from Coimbatore and has also been the state president of Tamil Nadu BJP. The Congress has criticized the NDA for making CP Radhakrishnan as Vice Presidential candidate and called him “another RSS man”. Explain that the tenure of the Vice President is five years, however, citing health reasons, this post became vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 21.

The Vice President is elected by an electorate, which consists of MPs from both houses of Parliament. The Vice President’s elections are ruled by the provisions of Articles 64 and 68 of the Constitution. The Election Commission notify the Vice Presidential elections by the President and Vice President Elections Act, 1952. According to Article 66 (1) of the Indian Constitution, the Vice President will be elected through a single transitional vote by the proportional representation system and voting in such elections will be held by secret voting.
