Sitapur

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced a crushing defeat in the by -election for the post of Mahmudabad Municipality President of Sitapur district of UP. Despite the active presence of ministers and senior leaders during the election campaign, the BJP candidate was reduced to just 1,352 votes and finished fifth. Congress, independents and rebel candidates also left the BJP behind.

Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Aamir Arafat won by getting 8,906 votes. After the results, SP President Akhilesh Yadav lashed out at the BJP through social media and said that this victory of his party in Mahmudabad is going to boost morale and BJP’s coming at number five is a sign of future politics of Uttar Pradesh.

By -elections were held at both these places due to the demise of the presidents of Mahmudabad and Mishrikh Municipality Councils in the district. Mahmudabad seat is considered important and politically sensitive to the district. Here the BJP gave ticket to Sanjay Verma, president of Backward Class Cell and close to former MP Rajesh Verma. This decision has been in controversies from the beginning, because many faces active in the party organization were in the race for selection, which were shifted.

The effect of rebels also showed a lot

Among the angry contenders for the ticket distribution, Atul Verma and Amrish Gupta rebelled and took the field as an independent candidate. The election results showed that the public supported both of them more than the official candidate of BJP. Atul Verma and Amrish Gupta finished second and third respectively, while the BJP’s official candidate was completely lagging behind. One of the reasons for this defeat was that during the election campaign, the local organization of the BJP was seen divided. Factionalism within the party, the tendency to bring forward the favorites by ignoring real workers and dissatisfaction in ticket distribution, all of them directly affected the results.

Allegations of use of governance also ineffective

During the election, the BJP put full emphasis in Mahmudabad. Many ministers and senior leaders were camping here. It was alleged that there was an attempt to adopt every tactic like administrative pressure, booth management and power demonstration. In the final stages of the election, videos of BJP leaders intimidating and intimidating opposition workers also went viral at some booths. The opposition also questioned the alleged role of the police administration. Despite this, the local people turned down the BJP’s appeal and gave a clear majority to the SP. The result was that the BJP candidate’s bail was confiscated.

Akhilesh Yadav’s attack

After the results, SP President Akhilesh Yadav wrote on X (East Twitter) that Samajwadi Party’s victory in Mahmudabad Municipality elections of Sitapur is going to increase morale. BJP’s arrival at number 5 is an indicator of UP’s future politics. Heartfelt congratulations to all the officials, workers including the winning candidate and best wishes to do good work!

Mahmudabad’s defeat brainstorming in BJP

After this shameful defeat of BJP in Mahmudabad, questions have been raised on the local big leaders of the party. Especially those leaders, who are engaged in giving tickets to their close faces bypassing the activists active in the organization. This defeat shows that the trust of the people cannot be won only on the strength of power or position.

BJP’s victory in Mishrikh

Despite the defeat in Mahmudabad, the BJP won the Mishrikh municipality. This seat also matters special because it includes the area of a major religious place like Naimisharanya. After the shock in the Ayodhya Lok Sabha elections, the BJP wanted to keep this prestigious seat with it. Here the party nominated Seema Bhargava, daughter -in -law of local MLA Ramakrishna Bhargava. SP also fielded its candidate, but it was a relatively new and unknown face. Despite getting the support of former minister Rampal Rajvanshi and former MLA Anoop Gupta during the election campaign, some incidents spoiled the atmosphere of SP. Many videos went viral during the election, in which SP supporters were publicly humiliated by the police. Due to this, the SP worker class started hesitating due to being openly active. Although there were allegations of dishonesty during the counting of votes, Seema Bhargava finally won by a margin of 3,200 votes.
