Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma has resigned from the post of President of the party’s foreign affairs department. He took over the responsibility of the post for almost a decade. However, Anand Sharma will still remain a member of Congress. Explaining the reason for his resignation, he said that he wants the department to be restructured and young leaders can be included in the party.
Letter written to Chairman Mallikarjun Kharge
Anand Sharma submitted his resignation to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge through a letter. In the letter, he wrote, “I thank the party leadership for giving this responsibility.
He also stated that his department has been active in strengthening the Congress’ relations with political parties around the world for the past several decades which share the values of democracy and human rights.
Who is Anand Sharma?
Anand Sharma is a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and has been a major face of the party on international affairs for the last four decades. He also played an important role in the talks of the Indo-US Nuclear Agreement and has also contributed to holding the first Indo-Africa Summit.
