The Delhi High Court directed the capital police and other concerned officials to take a decision on the petition seeking to make a database of those who repeatedly complain of sexual offenses. Chief Justice D.K. The bench of Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela was hearing a PIL (PIL).
The court said that the petitioner has already applied to the Delhi Police and other officials on this demand. The bench settled the petition without commenting on the merit of the petition case.
What did the court say on the demand of the petitioner?
The petitioner’s demand was that the court should direct the officials concerned to make a database of people who file a complaint more than once in cases of sexual exploitation. On this, the court said that taking this decision is the field of administration and police and ‘they know better how to do policing’.
The court said in its order, “Without the merit of the issues raised in the petition, the petition is dealt with that the concerned officer takes appropriate decisions on the demand of the petitioner soon.”
What was the demand in the petition?
This PIL was admitted on behalf of a person named Shony Kapoor, on whose side lawyer Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh presented the side. In the petition, it was demanded to give instructions to the Central Government and Delhi Police that a record of complainants should be kept in each police district headquarters who have filed more than one complaint related to allegations of rape or sexual offenses.
Also, the identity card (Aadhaar card on priority) should be taken compulsorily. It was also alleged in the petition that rape laws are being misused on a large scale by some complainants.
