The Congress said on Friday that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to present himself as the biggest friend of Indian farmers,” the Congress said on Friday, but no one has any confusion on it. After US President Donald Trump imposed double duty on India on crude oil imports from Russia, Modi said on Thursday that India would never compromise on the interests of its farmers. He said that he knows that he will have to pay a huge price personally, but he is ready for it.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that there was a time five years ago when the Prime Minister in Parliament ridiculed the agitating farmers and called them ‘agitators’. Ramesh said in a post on ‘X’, “More than 700 farmers were martyred in the movement against three black, anti-farmer laws, but neither pain, no regret nor a word of sympathy came out of the Prime Minister’s mouth.”

He said that farmers’ organizations are still demanding the legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP) and concrete debt relief by adding 50 percent profit on the cost of the entire production. In the context of Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Congress leader said that the Prime Minister is completely silent on these demands, while these issues were also raised by the former Vice President of India. He claimed that in November 2019, the Prime Minister was fully prepared to include India in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) trade agreement, which could cause heavy damage to Indian farmers and dairy growers.

Ramesh said that but due to constant pressure from Congress and farmer organizations, Prime Minister Modi had to retreat at the last moment. He said, “Prime Minister Modi, who was defeated by Trump’s attack, is trying to present himself as the biggest benevolent of Indian farmers, but no one has any confusion on it.”
