Meeting with Primary Teachers’ Association
Shimla
A group from the Himachal Pradesh Government Primary Teachers Association met with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday to present a memorandum outlining their various requests. The Chief Minister assured the teachers that their concerns would be addressed with understanding.
Sukhu highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that children in rural regions receive quality education, which is essential for preparing them to tackle future challenges confidently. He noted the crucial role teachers play in this endeavour.
The Chief Minister shared that significant reforms have been initiated in the education sector. Under the previous BJP administration, Himachal Pradesh was ranked 21st in the nation for educational quality. However, due to the current government’s dedicated efforts, the state has now improved to the 5th position. This progress is attributed to the collaborative work of the government, educators, and all personnel within the education department.
Sukhu also pointed out that the previous government’s approach of opening numerous schools without sufficient staff and low student enrollment was primarily for political gain. Many of these schools have since been closed by the current administration. To enhance the confidence of rural students and equip them for future challenges, Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools are being established in phases across all assembly constituencies.
In a bid to further elevate educational standards, the government plans to launch 100 CBSE-affiliated schools in the initial phase. The Chief Minister mentioned that English-medium education has been implemented statewide since last year, and schools now have the autonomy to choose smart uniforms for their students.
Naresh Chauhan, Principal Advisor (Media) to the Chief Minister, along with association officials, were also present during the meeting.
