Kathua
At least 6 people were killed and six people were injured in a cloudburst in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials informed that the incident took place at Ghati village in Rajbagh area of Kathua district and two other nearby places. The village lost contact due to sudden floods. However, a joint team of police and state disaster response forces (SDRF) reached the spot and started relief and rescue operations with the local people.
Officials said 6 bodies have been recovered, while six people have been rescued in an injured condition. All the injured are being treated in a nearby hospital. Significantly, a few days ago, more than 60 people lost their lives in a terrible incident of cloudburst in Kishtwar district.
He said that there were incidents of landslides in Bagad and Changra villages of Kathua police station area and Dilawan-Hutli of Lakhanpur police station area, but no major damage was reported.
Officials said that due to heavy rains, the water level of most reservoirs has increased rapidly and the Ujh river is flowing near the danger mark. Officials said that the district administration is keeping a close watch on the situation and has appealed to the people to stay away from the reservoirs.
