Excitement Surrounds Commonwealth Games Announcement
Athletes, coaches, and officials nationwide are buzzing with enthusiasm following the official announcement that Ahmedabad will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) confirmed this exciting news on Wednesday, marking India’s return to hosting the Games after a 20-year hiatus.
A Historic Moment for Indian Athletics
The announcement has sparked feelings of nostalgia and optimism among many athletes. Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee, Mouma Das, a table tennis star, expressed that hosting the Games again will significantly uplift Indian sports. “It’s fantastic news that India is hosting the Commonwealth Games after two decades. My experience at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi was remarkable. Competing at home means receiving immense support, which is crucial for athletes. The government’s backing is a tremendous boost for us,” she stated.
Young Athletes Eager to Shine
Young archers are equally thrilled about the upcoming event. Sahil Rajesh Jadhav, a medalist at various championships, emphasized the positive impact of government initiatives like Khelo India and TOPS. “These programs are excellent for athletes, providing financial and equipment support. The players are dedicated, and the government is backing us significantly,” he remarked.
Another aspiring archer, Shrey Bhardwaj, shared his dream of competing at the Games. “Hosting the Commonwealth Games is a tremendous opportunity for us. I’ve been practicing archery for about eight years, and SAI has been instrumental in my training, offering support in coaching, equipment, and nutrition. Competing at home will give us a significant advantage,” he noted.
Coaches Anticipate Record-Breaking Performances
SAI coach Susmita Sinha Roy, a two-time Commonwealth Games participant, believes that hosting the event will motivate athletes across the country. “It’s an honor to host the Commonwealth Games in India after 20 years. We hope that competing on home soil, with the support of the crowd, will help our athletes excel and surpass our previous medal tally,” she said.
