New Delhi

The Election Commission on Monday released the names of 65 lakh people removed from the draft voter list published under the special intensive revision (SIR) campaign. The officers provided this information. The development came after the Supreme Court’s directive stating that the details of the removed names should be made public by August 19 and the compliance report should be filed by 22 August.

He said that the Election Commission is publishing the names of ‘ASD’ (absent, transferred and dead) voters at all polling stations and it is likely to be done online as per the Supreme Court directives. According to Bihar Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), ASD lists have been displayed at polling stations in Rohtas, Begusarai, Arwal and other places.

Supreme Court had ordered
While hearing several petitions challenging the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in the electoral state Bihar, the Supreme Court last week asked the Election Commission to publish details of 65 lakh names removed from the voter list, as well as tell them because of not including them, so that transparency in the process can be increased.

22 lakh voters died
Chief Election Commissioner Dnyanesh Kumar said on Sunday that about 22 lakh voters declared dead in Bihar did not die recently, but probably not recorded in the past. In response to a question in a press conference, Gyanesh Kumar said that during the previous general revision of the voter list, calculations were not given in every household. He said that unless people inform about the deaths in their families, the booth level officials have no means to know about such cases. Kumar said that 22 lakh voters declared dead have not died in the last six months, but these are the dead voters who have not recorded any records in the last 20 years.
