Monsoon rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have become havoc. More than 300 people have lost their lives in a sudden flood in just 48 hours. According to local media, the death toll is 307.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the death toll at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday increased to 307. In this, around 12 people have lost their lives in Gilgit-Baltistan and 9 in PoK.
The heavy rains on Friday at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were destructive. More than 200 people died in a single day due to heavy rains and cloudburst in many districts. Those who died were also included members of the five crew members of the provincial government helicopter. The helicopter crashed in mohamand during relief and rescue operations.
According to a report by Don (Pakistani media), 184 people have died in the last 48 hours and Buner was the most affected district. There are reports of drowning of 36 in Shangla, 23 in Manshehra, 22 in Swat, 21 in Bajaur, 15 in Battagram, five in lower Dir and one in Abbottabad. 11 houses have been destroyed while 63 have been damaged due to floods. Government schools in Swat and Shangla have been affected.
Buner’s DC Kashif Qayum Khan also told Dawn that 30 people are missing in Chugarajai tehsil, while more than 100 people were injured. The search operation of the rescue team continues.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has declared severely affected mountainous districts such as Buner, Bajaur, Swat, Shangla, Manssehra and Battagram as disaster affected areas.
According to Pakistan’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), around 2,000 rescuers are engaged in removing bodies from the debris and running relief operations in nine affected districts. Due to heavy rains, landslides in many areas and roads flowing, it is becoming difficult to deliver heavy machinery and ambulances, especially.
