Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma resigns from the post of President of Foreign Affairs Department

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Anand Sharma has resigned as the chairman of the party’s foreign affairs department. He said that this step has been taken to reorganize the department and give the youth an opportunity for leadership.

Anand Sharma, who took command of this department for nearly a decade, says that “the inclusion of potential and talented young leaders in the department will continue to continue in its functioning.”

According to PTI, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge submitted his resignation and thanked the party leadership for this responsibility.

Anand Sharma is a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and has been the face of the party in international affairs. He played a key role in the Indo-US nuclear deal, the nuclear suppliers group to exempt India, and to create a structured form of India-Africa partnership.

Even after the Mumbai 26/11 attacks, he put India’s side firmly on global forums. According to the information issued by the Congress, under his leadership, DFA formed strong relations with all the democratic values and human rights of the world.

During this time several international conferences and delegation exchange were held with political parties of Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and Middle East.

Manish Tiwari wrote on X- “His understanding of foreign affairs is deep, especially on Africa. We have always taken advantage of his experience. He has engaged in the service of Congress five decades of his life.”

Anand Sharma will still remain in the Congress, but the command of DFA will now go to the hands of a young leader. He was also part of the multi-party parliamentary delegation who went abroad to keep India’s view on Operation Sindoor.
